Hi and welcome to Easy Peasy Foodie! My name’s Eb Gargano. I am a thirty-something mother of two who likes to spend her days faffing about in the kitchen or tapping away at the computer. In an attempt to combine those two activities into something worthwhile, I have created this blog – easypeasyfoodie.com.
About Easy Peasy Foodie
I absolutely love food, I love flavours, I love cooking, going to restaurants and drinking nice wine. But I really don’t like faffy food that takes forever and actually doesn’t always taste that great. One of the most disheartening things, for me, is slaving over a hot stove trying out a new recipe that takes twice the length of time it said it would and tastes half as nice as I thought it was going to.
The food I love is the sort of food which takes less than half an hour in the kitchen, uses less than 10 ingredients, doesn’t use fancy equipment or techniques, is cheap, healthy and yet tastes amazing!
To that end, the food on this blog will (mostly) be…
Easy to make
I’ll tell you if it isn’t and guide you through the process step by step. If ever I put something on here you think is too tricky for the average cook, give me a shout and I’ll rectify it!
Won’t require lots of cheffy equipment
No sous-vide here I’m afraid. Mostly my recipes require normal equipment that ordinary people have in their kitchen like saucepans, a sharp knife and a chopping board. If I use something more fancy, I’ll tell you why and I’ll tell you what to do if you don’t have one.
Won’t take forever!
Most of the recipes I do take about half an hour, some take a little longer, and some a whole lot less. I’ll try and give you an accurate amount of time it will take. (Let me know if it takes you longer and I’ll adjust!)
Won’t contain a long list of ingredients, most of which you’ve never heard of
One of my all time pet hates. I love experimenting and trying new things, but one at a time. And I generally like a nice short list of ingredients. Keeps the costs down too! Plus I like to be able to buy my ingredients from normal shops.
Won’t cost the earth
The vast majority of my dishes are pretty cheap to make and if I use an expensive ingredient, I’ll tell you how you can make it cheaper.
But will contain good ingredients
Wherever possible I try to use veg from my local greengrocer, free-range eggs, organic dairy, higher welfare/organic meat and sustainably sourced fish and seafood. I’m not a saint, but I do try my best. I try to buy fairtrade too when that’s an option.
Family friendly
I have two small children. They are my harshest critics. Nuff said!
Healthy-ish.
OK, so some of my food is pure indulgence – mostly the cake. But my everyday food is pretty healthy and wholesome and includes lots of veggies, wholegrains, pulses, fish and lean meat – and if it’s not, I try and offer ways to make it healthier…like eating less cake! 😀
