Homemade Fajita Marinade is so much tastier than shop-bought fajita spice mix – and it only takes 5 minutes to make! It’s perfect for chicken fajitas, salmon fajitas, turkey fajitas, vegetable fajitas, steak fajitas… or any time you want some Mexican flavour in your life!

Homemade is so much better than shop bought!

I have been on a quest for several years to cut down on processed food – especially Ultra Processed Foods (AKA UPFs).

Some swaps are definitely easier than others, but making your own homemade fajita marinade instead of using a shop-bought fajita seasoning is definitely one of the easier ones.

This Easy Fajita Marinade takes literally 5 minutes to make and it’s so much tastier than shop-bought fajita spice mix!

It’s perfect for chicken fajitas, salmon fajitas, turkey fajitas, vegetable fajitas, lamb fajitas… or any time you want some Mexican flavour in your life!

How to make Homemade Fajita Marinade

This Homemade Fajita Marinade could not be simpler to make!

All you need to do is place all the marinade ingredients in a large bowl and mix together thoroughly. Add your choice of protein (e.g. chicken, turkey, steak, salmon, prawns) and turn to coat.

Ideally leave to marinate for 1-2 hours in the fridge (but you can skip this step if you don’t have the time!) Then continue on with your fajita recipe. That’s it!

How to use Homemade Fajita Marinade

This Homemade Fajita Marinade can be used anywhere where you’d normally use a shop-bought fajita spice mix.

You can either marinate your protein in this marinade, or just throw it into the pan when you’d normally chuck the shop-bought fajita seasoning in.

You could also use this marinade in any of the following recipes…

  • Easy One Pan Chicken Fajitas
  • Easy One Pan Salmon Fajitas
  • Easy Turkey Fajitas
  • Easy Lamb Fajitas
  • Easy Vegetable Fajitas

What to do with leftover Fajita Marinade

If you have leftover Fajita Marinade that has touched raw fish or meat, you need to throw that away. Keeping it risks food poisoning!

However, so long as the Fajita Marinade has not touched raw fish or meat, you can simply pop it in a clean jam jar (or similar) and put it in the fridge, where it will keep for 3-4 days.

Can you freeze Fajita Marinade?

Yes you can! You have two options here. You can either freeze the marinade on its own OR you can mix the marinate with your chosen protein first, then put the whole lot in the freezer.

If you choose to freeze the marinade on its own, it will keep for about 3 months in the freezer.

If you choose to freeze the marinade with your chosen protein, it will keep for about 1 month in the freezer.
